Build a Better Business Installment #5 Getting New Clients to Come to You

Okay, let’s face it a freelance writing business doesn’t work if you don’t have clients. And clients are what seem to be most new writer’s biggest challenge.

Many writers spend countless hours of their valuable time bidding on jobs on freelance job sites and end up with only a few small jobs each month.

Now, I’m okay with using freelance job sites to fill in the gaps in your schedule but as a primary method to attract clients, not so much. It’s just too much work and all that rejection, and unsavory clients, can be bad for the spirit.

So how do you get clients?

Build a Better Business Session Four

Hi! I’ve been out of town and didn’t want to delay the next installment in the Build a Better Freelance Business Series so this session is a good old fashioned blog post – video post next time.

This session is devoted to what I like to call the 3 P’s. They are:

  1. Punctuality
  2. Professionalism
  3. Politeness or courteousness

 

The way I see it, and from what I hear from our clients, many freelance writers really drop the ball here.  The good news is that with awareness for what is expected from your clients you can create systems to support an exceptional customer experience each and every time.

Let’s take a look at each of the 3P’s individually.

 

Punctuality

It’s become so commonplace that it’s almost a joke, a sad joke.

Writers are notorious for delivering content late. This is unacceptable and you’ll lose many clients this way. Now, I am fully aware that things come up that cause problems and delay materials.

You get sick, your computer crashes, a tree falls on your house (Don’t laugh that has actually happened to a writer that I know. She was professional and punctual to the end and delivered all of her content on time!) Read More…
